About This Watch
The Tank Louis Cartier is the watch Louis Cartier kept for himself, his own 1922 refinement of the 1917 Tank design, and it has remained the purest expression of the most influential rectangular watch ever made for over a century. Unveiled at Watches and Wonders 2023, this reference is one of the rarest modern takes on that icon, replacing the traditional Roman dial with a full three-gold dial reserved for a handful of special-production pieces.
The dial is built as a quadratic grid of brushed squares in yellow, rose, and white gold, a direct homage to the optical dials of the 1970s Tank Must era, and it reads differently with every turn of the wrist as the three golds catch and trade the light. With no numerals, no minute track, and only a pair of sword hands and the sapphire cabochon crown against the 18k rose gold case, the metalwork itself becomes the entire face of the watch, worn here on Cartier's navy blue alligator leather strap.
33.7 x 25.5mm 18k rose gold case powered by the manual-winding Cartier Manufacture Calibre 1917 MC, named for the year the Tank was designed and shared only with the Tank Asymétrique, featuring 38 hours of power reserve, a sapphire crystal, and 30m water resistance.
