About This Watch
Some watches survive three decades. Very few survive them like this. This two-tone Submariner Date was sold on 10 June 1998 by Seddiqi & Sons at Dubai City Centre, Rolex's long-time authorised dealer in Dubai, and it comes today as it left the boutique: the original warranty papers carrying the handwritten date and the Seddiqi stamp, the red seal, the translation booklet, the calendar card, the serialised hang tag, a spare link (10 links), and inner & outer Rolex box. The kind of local vintage set UAE collectors spend years waiting for.
The watch itself is the reference that defined the two-tone Submariner: the 16613 ran from 1988 to the mid-2000s, from the last generation before ceramic bezels and polished centre links changed the model's character. The black dial and black aluminium bezel insert sit against 18k yellow gold on the crown, bezel, and Oyster bracelet centre links, gold-surrounded hour markers matching, in the proportions and drilled-lug case that make the five-digit Submariners the collector's pick of the modern era. The preservation matches the paperwork: this is among the best-kept vintage examples we have handled, with the green Rolex service sticker still on the caseback, and a movement that runs as good as any modern watch (timegrapher: 0 s/d, 292° amplitude, 0.0ms beat error).
